About Alie
Alie McManus has studied yoga and meditation since 1994 and has been teaching since 1999. In each of Alie’s classes, she shares clear, subtle, deep cuing, giving you the tools to tune into your true essence. Alie has studied over 3000 hours with her primary teacher Erich Schiffmann and continues to study with him when in Santa Monica. Erich taught Alie how to do her own yoga which is called Freedom Yoga. Alie is grateful for all of her teachers, including Barbara Benagh, Patricia Sullivan, and Angela Farmer, who have shared their love of yoga in their unique and beautiful ways.
In November 2022 Alie received her Ayurveda Yoga Specialist Certification with Kathyrn Templeton and Yoga International and is seeing clients for Ayurveda lifestyle consultations. Continued education is a source of inspiration and life enrichment for Alie. Courses that Alie is continuing to study and practice include, Embodying Safety: Incorporating Yoga, QiGong, and the Polyvagal Theory with Amelia Barili, as well as Ayurveda Mental Health Coach Certification with Kathryn Templeton.

What students are saying
“...yoga will always be a personal practice, you get out what you give it. But... when you take a class with a teacher that facilitates class the way she does, it allows your own organic process to grow naturally which is what I love most about classes with Alie.”
“Thank you so much for the amazing yoga retreat in Costa Rica! It was one of the best weeks I’ve experienced...The grounds, accommodations, staff, and food at Blue Spirit are amazing. You have found a gem.
Thank you for another wonderful week on yoga retreat with you. It was such a beautiful week of contradictions — I got to slow down and be more active, socialize and be alone, be silly, be contemplative, eat a lot but be mindful about my food choices. I loved everything about my week at “adult” camp and can’t wait to be a three-timer. Thanks for making such a week possible.
...I met so many amazing people and feel recharged, which is exactly what I hoped for when I signed up for the trip. Thanks again for a wonderful week!”
“That was the best class ever!”
“Your workshop [teacher training module] yesterday was exceptional. I’ve already used some of the techniques. Thank you soooo much and I look forward to learning more from you soon. ”
Freedom Yoga is an invitation to use the discipline of the practices to flower into an intuitive, embodied experience of yoga as a lifestyle. Rooted in the tradition of meditation, awareness, and conscious union with Divine Consciousness, or Raja Yoga, this approach supports a gentle remembering of our natural state of wholeness.
My primary teacher, Erich Schiffmann, modeled and transmitted the essence of Freedom Yoga through both his teaching and his way of being: Erich is the presence of peace and love. This practice encourages Self-trust, presence, and gentle, persistent inner listening.
Through breath, movement, and the mindful pause of meditation, Freedom Yoga offers a path to cultivate clarity, compassion, and inner peace—on the mat and in daily life.
