Freedom Yoga in Costa Rica:

Envision 2027

with Alie McManus

Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort

Nosara, Costa Rica

11th Annual Winter Yoga Retreat

January 2-9, 2027

Registration is Now Open!

Reclaim your freedom and step into the powerful energy of the new year as we gather in Costa Rica to envision our highest good for 2027. For seven days, we’ll move, breathe, explore, and come together—supported by yoga, nature, adventure, and deep relaxation. This is Alie’s 11th annual winter retreat in Nosara, refined over the years through shared experience and shaped by returning students who come back for the depth, care, and clarity this journey offers.

Many guests arrive on their own and quickly feel at home within the group. The retreat is intentionally intimate, allowing genuine connection to unfold naturally and giving Alie the space to offer thoughtful, individualized attention. If you’d like a roommate, or someone to share the Residences South (three-bedroom accommodation) with we’ll do our best to connect you with a new friend. Space is intentionally limited. Early registration is encouraged.

Pause, breathe, and relax.

Immerse yourself in the magical landscape of Costa Rica—warm ocean air, howler monkeys calling at dusk, golden light filtering through the palms, beautiful beaches, and lush greenery. I’ve chosen this setting intentionally: it invites both ease and aliveness. You’ll be nourished with yoga twice-daily, three delicious farm-to-table meals each day, and optional spa treatments. This week is not an escape—it’s a return to yourself.

Throughout this revitalizing trip, my intention is to create a space where feeling your best extends beyond the week we share together. Surrounded by the jungle and nourished by daily yoga and beautiful food, we’ll explore practices and reflections you can carry with you—so clarity, ease, and freedom continue long after you return home. Together, we learn to balance grounding with enlightening, doing with undoing, relaxing with energizing, and centering with expanding.

The rhythm of our days together is intentional and spacious.

We begin by deepening our yoga practice with invigorating morning classes and restorative sessions later in the day. Each practice builds upon the last, creating a progressive and integrated experience. We start with gentle breathwork and calming postures to relax the nervous system, then gradually explore postures through thoughtful sequencing that awakens the body’s innate intelligence. With Alie’s signature precise and enlightening teaching style, we weave together meditation, essential breathwork, creative pose variations, joy, and indiscriminate curiosity—guiding you toward your natural state of peace and, ultimately, freedom.

After lunch, we’ll gather for Ayur-bites—brief, approachable talks introducing the foundations and practical application of Ayurveda, with tools you can bring home to support balance and wellbeing in everyday life. On some days, restorative yoga will be offered in the afternoon; on others, practice will be held in the evening. This gentle variability creates space for excursions, spa therapy, or simply resting. We also love to honor sunset together at the beach, whether by taking a short 10-minute walk or enjoying a golf cart shuttle to and from the shore.

When you feel called to explore, adventure awaits: ride a horse along the beach, zipline through the Costa Rican forest (the longest canopy tour in the world!), learn to surf, join a wildlife and birding kayaking tour, paddleboard among the mangroves, hike to a waterfall, enjoy the local fare with a cooking lesson, explore the environs on an ATV, bike along the beach, or wander jungle paths into town to visit charming local shops and cafés. And when it’s time to rest, find balance lounging by the Pacific Ocean, enjoying spa services, soaking in the saltwater pool, or relaxing with a fresh coconut in hand.

A Day on Retreat with Alie

Each day unfolds organically to support the opportunities of the moment. No two days are exactly the alike—some afternoons invite earlier practice, others offer evening sessions—yet a gentle rhythm carries us throughout the week. Here’s a glimpse of what a typical day together might feel like:

Sunday, January 3, 2027

Sunrise: 6:05 a.m.

The light arrives softly over the jungle canopy, inviting a spacious and unhurried start to the day.

7:00—10:00 a.m.

Nourish yourself with a vibrant breakfast offering abundant options for all dietary preferences—grounding, energizing, and deeply satisfying.

9:00—11:00 a.m.

Settle into meditation and breathwork before enjoying a grounding and uplifting yoga practice designed to awaken body and mind.

Midday Space

Unstructured time to relax and integrate—perhaps a refreshing dip in the pool or quiet moments to soak in in the surroundings.

12:00—2:30 p.m.

Gather for a delicious, colorful lunch in the dining hall.

12:30 p.m.

Ayur-bites—relaxed, bite-sized explorations of Ayurveda foundations and daily practices, with supportive handouts to continue learning.

Afternoon

Time to explore, rest, or play—maybe a siesta in the shade or sipping on a coconut under a palm tree, toes in the water.

2:45 p.m.—4:45 p.m.

Gentle & Restorative yoga practice (timing varies)

A deeply nourishing practice supporting nervous system reset and integration.

Pro-tip: bring your swimsuit and towel—many participants head straight to the beach afterward for a refreshing sunset dip.

Sunset—5:46 p.m.

Pause together at the beach, in a chaise by the infinity pool, or at Oceana Shala to witness the beauty of day’s end—a simple, shared experience taking in the glorious colors of sunset that often becomes a favorite part of retreat life.

6:00—9:00 p.m.

Dinner enjoyed in community, with plentiful options for all dietary preferences.

Been meaning to write you to tell you how magical our time at Nosara was. The classes were stellar, such a warm nurturing group. . .The place was so beautiful, the food so delicious & healthy. You were so great and we will never forget it!”

“Thank you for another wonderful week on yoga retreat with you. It was such a beautiful week of contradictions — I got to slow down and be more active, socialize and be alone, be silly, be contemplative, eat a lot but be mindful about my food choices. I loved everything about my week at “adult” camp and can’t wait to be a three-timer. Thanks for making such a week possible.
