Erich Schiffmann was my very first teacher and is the primary influence on my understanding of yoga. While living in Burlington, Vermont, Erich’s DVD with Ali MacGraw, introduced me to yoga!
When I moved to Boston 2 years later for Graduate work, I was introduced to Barbara Benagh. Barbara is one of the very finest teachers I’ve met to date. She embodies intelligence, persistence, and a poetic clarity that sounds beautiful if you’re willing and receptive to hear her voice. Luckily enough, I studied intensively with Barbara for 4 years and began an apprenticeship with her and helped her manage her yoga studio. I absolutely love any opportunity I have to be with her! Barbara’s excellence is undeniable.
Barbara introduced me to Angela Farmer and Victor van Kooten. They are wild & curious, unusual & ultimately eccentric, in the way that brilliant artists are! If you have a chance go to Greece for their Course and to immerse yourself in the joy of being in Paradise, do! It was in Boston in 1998 that I first began working with Victor and then a year or so later that I began my work with Angela in Estes Park, CO. Angela’s teachings have given me the skill to navigate sensations happening throughout my body and inspired me to explore. I have been fortunate to attend Angela’s Women’s retreat at Harbin Hot Springs, more than twice; experienced Angela & Victor’s teacher Un-Training in Yellow Springs, Ohio, several times; and have participated in many of their workshops across the country, as well as spending time in Eftalou, Greece. I will continue to travel across vast distances to be with these two brilliant luminaries.
It was Erich Schiffmann & Leslie Bogart that took me under their wings and welcomed me to Los Angeles! They are 2 of the best friends a person could EVER have.
Leslie and Erich are FUN! Hilarious! Brilliant! and Intuitively Intelligent!
And I LOVE THEM!
My teacher training with Erich Schiffmann began in 2001 in Santa Barbara. It became clear that I had to continue working with Erich and I moved promptly to Los Angeles. While living in Los Angeles, I taught at Exhale Center for Sacred Movement, UCLA, and Yoga House, and I apprenticed with Erich, assisting his classes, workshops and teacher trainings. Practicing with Erich is a tremendous reservoir of inspiration and support that nurtures me to the core everyday.
After about 4 or 5 years I was called to move home to Chicago where I live in Lincoln Park! And I teach at 2 beautiful yoga studios in Chicago, Yogaview and Moksha, as well as at DePaul University.
